Hello everyone!

I'm the store clerk LR!

Everyone! Are you playing the original STG of Touhou Project?!

I bought the original game, but

「It's so hard I can't reach the boss at all!」

I really~~understand that feeling!!
Even when you know it, you still end up holding bombs, moving with unfamiliarcursor keys, and so on...
Various factors are raising the barrier to clearing it...

「Am I just bad at the original game?」

and it's easy to fall into a negative mindset...

But please wait a moment!!

「It's too soon to give up there!」

Actually, you can also use a 【gamepad】 to play the original game!
What's more, you can customize the 【button layout (key config)】 yourself too!

First, your own

「The optimal input device & button layout」

Start by finding one! Give up after that!

Even more good news!!

Why Saturn Pad now?

Now, this Saturn Pad originally appeared as acontroller for home game consolescalled the Sega Saturn, released in the 1990s.Why is it still loved in all kinds of games today?

The secret is...

「The one-and-only D-pad that achieves precise control and diagonal input」

and they are so well known even in the fighting game world, where frame-perfect precision is required, that their ability is certain! Due to their astonishingly high level of completion, it seems they even obtained a patent!
These are fully demonstrated in the Touhou original game as well, sliding past dense bullet patterns with tiny movementsandSmooth circular movementis no big deal at all!!

「Even the expired "Lunar Curse of Tsukino-Iwakasa" is no longer scary!」

Personally, for the first EX boss card, it isdifficult spell cardsI feel that way, but since debuting with the Saturn PadThe acquisition rate has improved dramatically
The greatness of the D-pad

And furthermore!

Right now atAKIBA-HOBBY Ikebukuro store's "Touhou original trial play cabinet"

「You can try playing with the Saturn Pad!」

Please, actually hold it and give it a try~~!

That said...

「Suddenly debuting with a Saturn Pad,
Button layout (key config)is deciding that kind of difficultyLunaticor what!」

might end up being,

to an AKIBA-HOBBY staff member who uses the original Satapa

I asked about the "recommended button layout"!

■First person: Staff LR

★Advantages

①You will understand the controls once you try playing! It is intuitive, so I recommend it to beginners! (Already promoted to multiple people)

②By making bomb the R button, you can keep your finger on it at all times, so instant bomb is easier to land!

③Left hand: controls, right hand: attack, so the division of roles is clear, making it beautiful as a button layout

★Demerits

①Because both shot and special actions are pressed with the "right thumb", it is almost impossible to use special actions while continuing to shoot. When activating season unlocks and the like, the shot inevitably cuts out for a moment

②With (C) shot, I somehow end up putting unnecessary force on the (C) button, so if I play too much, my right thumb gets tendinitis (maybe people who played Mario Kart DS when they were younger can relate).

■Second person: Staff F

★Advantages

The shot button is the best buddy, so it is always the button you press, and in order to improve the stability of the pad you are holding, the center-leaning X is optimal. Place both elbows on both knees and fix your elbows, hold it firmly with the D-pad with your left thumb + LR with both index fingers + X with your right thumb, and first eliminate wobble.(You can't brace yourself with a weak grip layout.)For slow and bomb, LR lets you keep your fingers on it at all times, so it's easier to react instantly.(As for the L/R layout, I set it to L slow and R bomb so the left half of the pad handles the player's movement controls and the right half handles the shot controls. Also, for Bunbunmaru-style controls, since I always want to hold X and keep the pad firmly in place, I made R the shoot button.(As an aside, someone once said, "It's a good layout like winding camera film.")

★Demerits

Nothing in particular. I eliminate in advance anything that feels like a disadvantage.

■ 3rd person: Clerk J

★Advantages

A variation of the layout taught to me by Clerk F. (The advantages are the same as above.) Since special controls were easy when placed where they can be pressed right away, I put them directly below shot (X).

★Demerits

Since special controls can be pressed right away, there is a risk of accidental activation.

■ 4th person: Clerk X

★Advantages

① The layout I moved to after using a PS controller. The shot is arranged so it can be held down and can be released without strain in the slow-move position, and by pressing slow move with my thumb, I can adjust movement amount with repeated taps as needed, and make it so that for a ship like Sanae's, I can naturally control slow-speed homing. It feels like it worked very well in Unconnected Marketeers.

② Since I know I am a beginner, I placed bombs in an intentionally hard-to-press position. I did it on purpose so that I can only do intentional bombs and panic bombs. I do not aim for grazed bombs, and I do not dodge properly while holding a bomb. That is my motto.

③ For movement, special controls are assigned to the L key so that I do not have to use strength in my left hand; by fixing in advance where to press them, just like bombs, I keep the workload on my left hand to a minimum. Incidentally, I put ability card switching on X. It is an extremely odd position, but I think in Unconnected Marketeers and BP, running out of buttons is the fate of the Saturn Pad, so please take it in stride.

★Demerits

1. In the first place, special operations that should be avoided as much as possible, such as long presses or sudden use, are assigned to the L key so that no force is put on the left hand, but around Keijou Garden you end up being made to long-press anyway, so that part is rather tough. Because slow speed is on B, "Anyway, during charge the shot stops, so I guess I can just assign charge to around the X key on the assumption that I'll let go of the shot button!"I can't do things like that either, which is frustrating, so I'm trying various approaches.

■Fifth: Clerk S

*This was the layout when playing with the Mega Drive Mini pad. Therefore, the trigger buttons were not used (buttons not present on the SATA pad)

★Advantages

1. Keep pressing the B button assigned to shot with the base of your thumb, and assign the frequently used slow speed to Y, which can be pressed with the pad of your thumb

2. By assigning shots that you will almost keep pressing during play to the large-area buttons, finger strain is reduced

★Demerits

1. The bomb is assigned to the C button. When using it, move your thumb to the right and press the button. The special keys are handled in the same way by moving your thumb, so it is easy to make input mistakes if you're not used to it. It is better to use the trigger buttons in the first place.

LastlyWhen usingCaution(Recommended reading before purchase)

■Treat the pad with care!

The Saturn pad is extremely excellent in terms of operability and grip, but because of that, delicate and precise constructionfor, it is a littleMake sure to handle it carefullyand feel at ease. In particular, things like dropping it onto a hard floor,I want to be careful of strong impacts!

If you treat it carefully, it will definitelya pad that can keep being usedSo, from day to dayMeasures to prolong its life, such as storing it in a safe placeLet's keep that in mind! (Clerk LR is worried, so after playing, he puts it back in the Saturn pad's outer box)

That concludes the Saturn pad review! Thank you for reading this far!

"Don't give up on clearing the original game yet! First, try holding the SATA pad!"

Please do give it a try at least once! Now then, have fun with your original game life!
Well then
