The history of Akyu's Untouched Score vol.1 / Team Shanghai Alice

I am nervous about creating my first blog, but I hope you will give me a warm welcome 🙏.

As a quick reminder, this article introduces "亞樂団の歴史 1 - Akyu's Untouched Score vol. 1", which contains old Touhou Project songs.

Older works are games based on original Touhou Project works that were published before Benimago and were compatible with PC-98 (these were PCs before the advent of Windows).

To elaborate, the PC-98 was an old PC and did not have a lot of memory capacity, so music could not be played directly.

Therefore, performance data was sent to a sound chip, where sounds were synthesised in real time to produce background music. It is easy to understand if you imagine the music of the Famicom (NES).

FM sound sources were highly regarded for their ability to produce 'realistic sounds' when they first appeared and were used in many PCs, but with the evolution of PC performance, they have retreated from the mainstream and become a sound source that has entered the realm of fantasy.

It is somewhat fragile, but also glittering. Such is the appeal of FM sound sources.

This time, I would like to focus on one song from "The History of the Allied Music Group 1" where such FM sound sources were used.

'Bad Apple!!! '

Most people have probably heard this song before: it is the original song by Alstroemeria Records "Bad Apple! feat. nomico' by Alstroemeria Records.

The song starts off minimalist with a four-strike kick and bass, and gradually builds up. The song then takes a dizzying turn, returning to its original minimalist structure when it reaches its peak at the end.

This song has both the richness of development common to all Touhou Project songs and the minimalism of the old works. Considering its popularity, it is safe to say that it is "one of the first songs of the old project".

Of particular note is the bass tone. This tone sounds both synth-like and live bass. I believe that this sound, which lies between reality and fantasy, is the sound of ¡ÈAmaraku¡É.
