【Clerk X Part 1】A story about how Touhou Kinjōkyō is great.【mostly proselytizing】
Nice to meet you, I'm Shop Staff X. It's already July, and 2026 has gotten off to a fast start, so how have you been?
Putting that aside, you, the one reading this article right now.
To be direct, have you played Touhou Kinjokyo 〜 Fossilized Wonders.?
It's been almost a year since it was distributed at last year's summer Comiket, but actually, I, Shop Staff X, only bought Kinjokyo just last month.
The reason is that I only started buying the original works last year, and since I was buying them in order from the oldest, it took me this long. I'm definitely not one of those people who only recognize old works, seriously.
And so I ended up getting into Kinjokyo...
Mmm...
Way too interesting...
No, this work is just too interesting...the story, the gameplay, the music—everything hits me way too hard...
So, with lots of my own Shop Staff X bias mixed in, I'm going to talk as much as I can about the parts I love!
①I love the story so much
It's already been a year since release, so spoilers should be fine... right?

This incident also had all kinds of things going on, huh. When I went to investigate the sanctuary, I fought the leader of the yamawaro who couldn't go home anymore, then when I entered the sanctuary I got picked on and fought there too, and when I thought I had found a pyramid, I ended up fighting an absurd riddle-maker...
The story event that left the biggest impression on me personally was,
1.Yuiari is precious
2.All 16 endings
3.Another moon-related thing...? Huh, Toyohime?????

1.Yuiari is precious
I really like Yuiari...
After being invited by the moon people because of her ability, Ariya refused and was sealed away.
Because Ariya refused, Yuiman was brainwashed and confined by the moon people, then overworked as a system for purifying impurities, and as the amount of information from the outside world kept increasing, Yuiman finally broke down.
Ariya seems to have some very intense feelings toward Yuiman, who was turned into a purification device because she refused an invitation from the moon people, and I really like that.
Please, I just want those two to keep deer hunting forever. 🏹🦌
2.All 16 endings
This game has a total of 16 endings: 8 main incident stones × Reimu and Marisa as the player characters. So packed!! So happy!!
What's more, since the incident stones are based on incidents that happened in the past, lots of past characters also appear in the endings!! So happy!!
Which ending do you all like?
I like the ending for Reimu's Creature Red and Marisa's Beast Hardness.
Isn't Keiki in the ending super cute? ZUN's art in the ending has a distinctive looseness to it, and I really liked Keiki drawn that way. I also understand why that certain staff member, YM, pushes her so much.
I also really like Keiko as a character, and I was especially overjoyed because I never expected to see her interacting with Marisa again so soon in canon. Ah, I love her.
3.Another moon-related thing...? Huh, Toyohime?????
This was the biggest surprise in this game. From "Another Moon-related incident in Stage 4!?" to Toyohime. And as a Stage 5 boss, she holds a pretty important position in Touhou.
It wasn't a first impression of "It's Toyohime! Yay!", but rather "Huh, Toyohime!? Is she allowed to appear!?" I was happy, of course, but I never expected one half of the Watatsuki sisters, known as some of the most broken characters in Touhou, to appear. Well, since an even morebrokencharacter showed up, maybe it was fine?
Even after defeating her, as expected of Toyohime, there wasn't even any botched art. I wonder if book characters will appear in integer titles again in the future? Personally, I really want Mizuchi to show up!!!
②The gameplay is too interesting
I really like this game's unique systems, Incident Stones and Incident Enemies.
First, the incident stone system lets you choose and equip one of 8 incident stones across 4 categories: main, spread, focused, and support.
The customization is way too high!
Just looking at the equipment screen can make an hour fly by! What a fun game!
Also, there is a drawback in that enemy incidents also automatically appear and attack once they accumulate incident value, but defeating them comes with the welcome effects of item drops and bullet clearing. So appreciated.
To be honest, I'm actually not very good at gimmicks that use extra buttons, like Subterranean Animism's Spirit World Trance or Hidden Star in Four Seasons' Season Release. I often end up hesitating over whether to use that or a bomb, and as a result I react too late and lose my life. I'm clumsy like that...
So the automatically triggered Perfect Cherry Blossom's Shinra Barrier was my personal favorite unique system, but since Kinkaikyo's incident enemy system works in the same way, I really love it too. I love the incident enemy!
...Come to think of it, I thought the same thing about the Beast Legend's otter spirit too, but the unique systems that can erase bullets really are pretty strong...!?
③The music is way too god-tier
By the way, please don't mind this title, which lacks even a shred of vocabulary. I'm the kind of otaku who loses their words when overflowing with love.
Touhou original songs really are amazing. It's always been a feast of god-tier tracks, but this time there were especially many songs that really struck my soul.
"I'm Used to Being the Last One - Stone Goddess" is a wonderful song that, unlike the bosses in previous integer entries, expresses Ariya's loneliness and passion as she triggered the incident alone just to save a single friend. There are many 6 boss themes that leave an impression, but this one stood out especially strongly.
"Golden Paradise of Prester John" is another song I absolutely love. In fact, if we're talking about stage 3 travel themes, it might even be my all-time favorite. The heroic phrase from the intro makes my brain vibrate, and I really like the guitar as it builds toward the chorus.
"FourColorLabirinth" is a track I really want you to listen to with earphones or headphones. The first time I heard it while playing without earphones, I only thought, "Hmm, that's a nice song." But when I put on earphones and listened in music-focus mode, it was seriously insane. I mean... well... it's just insane!! Especially the drums are incredible!! Everyone, please listen to Four Color Labyrinth~!!!
There are also tons of amazing songs in Kinkaikyo. Like "Sacred Forest" or "Since you're going to do it anyway, stake your life and solve the mystery" or "Hallucination on the Two-Shelled Shell".
But if I kept talking forever, we'd never finish, so I managed to squeeze out my personal top 3. That was tough...
Summary
Now then, even after talking this much about Touhou Kinkaikyo, there are still so many things I love about it and want to spread the word about.
For example, there are attractive new characters I couldn't cover, like Nako and Nina, as well as spell cards like "Shioganeju" and "Stone Goddess"... Touhou Kinkaikyo is packed with so much appeal that I can't possibly talk about it all.
That god-tier game, "Touhou Kinkaikyo 〜 Fossilized Wonders.," is now on sale at AKIBA-HOBBY!!
Steam is convenient and easy to buy, but as otaku, you always end up wanting to collect the actual CDs.
